Geographic disposition in a decentralized energy network

The global energy landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, shifting away from centralized power grids towards decentralized energy networks. This paradigm shift is driven by the growing adoption of renewable energy sources, the advancement of energy storage technologies, and the increasing demand for more resilient and sustainable energy systems. In this new era, the concept of "Energy Zones (Microgrids)” and “Zones Cells” is a key building block for a decentralized energy future.

What are Energy Zones?

Energy Zones (Microgrids) are geographically defined areas where energy generation, distribution, and consumption are largely self-sufficient, managed locally and operate independently (island mode) or in conjunction with the main power grid (grid-connected mode). These regions can vary in size from small communities to entire cities or counties. They leverage a mix of renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, and hydropower, along with energy storage solutions to meet their energy needs.

Each Energy Zone is composed by a local energy market with:

  • consumers equipped with smart meters (Consumer Node).

  • prosumers equipped with bi-directional meters (Prosumer Node).

What are Zones Cells?

Each Energy Zone will divide their geographically area into smaller ones called Cells Zones. This Cell Zone contains a maximum number of nodes (Consumers with smart meters & Prosumers with bi-directional smart meters) connected to the local energy market. These nodes will participate in the energy consumption, generation and storage of the local energy market.

Conclusion

The concept of Energy Zones and Cells Zone represents a paradigm shift in how we think about energy production and distribution. By embracing decentralized energy networks, we can create a more resilient, sustainable, and equitable energy future for generations to come.
